How to add a waitlist to a Squarespace site

Updated October 2, 2026

You can add a waitlist to a Squarespace site by pasting one line of code. Visitors join with their email and then see their place in line, your updates and a chat with everyone else waiting, without leaving your site.

What you need

  • A Squarespace site you can publish. Code Injection is on plans that include it (Core and up).
  • A Lunch Room, which is free for up to 50 people. Creating one takes your company name and an email address.

1. Create your room and copy the code

Create a room, then open Widget in your dashboard. Pick a window style, your colour and the button text, and copy the widget code. It is a single line that looks like this, with your own room name in it:

<script src="https://lunchroom.zetstudios.ca/widget.js" data-room="your-room" async></script>

2. Paste it into Squarespace

  1. Settings → Advanced → Code Injection.
  2. Paste the code into “Footer”.
  3. Save.

3. Launch the room and check it

A new room is private until you launch it from the dashboard. After launching, open your published site: a small join form appears, in the corner or in the page depending on the position you chose. Join with your own email to see what visitors get. Your dashboard shows the site as live once the page has loaded there.

What your visitors see

  • A join form with one email field.
  • After confirming their email: their place in line, your pinned updates and polls.
  • A chat with everyone else waiting, and a quick game.
  • A referral link, if you have turned referrals on.

If it does not show up

  • Check that the change is published in Squarespace, not only saved.
  • Check that the room is launched. A draft room shows nothing to visitors.
  • If you limited the widget to certain domains in the dashboard, make sure your site's domain is on the list.

Questions

Does the waitlist slow down my Squarespace site?
The code loads after your page, so it does not hold up your content.
Can I change how it looks?
Yes. Choose from five window styles, set your colour, title and button text, and pick or turn off the game. Changes apply without touching the code again.
Is it free?
Yes, for up to 50 people on one waitlist, with every feature included. Paid plans raise the number of people and start at $2.99 a month.
